Saint Mary's picks the winner

Our History Department sponsored a schoolwide Mock Election on Monday. Students and staff had to fill out a registration form last week in order to be eligible. Voting took place all day on Monday at two voting booths that were set-up near the gym.

Votes were tallied at the end of the day and Barack Obama was elected, defeating John McCain by about a dozen votes.

Open House for Prospective Freshmen

Our annual open house for prospective freshmen will be held next Wednesday, November 5 at 6:30pm. We will have faculty on hand to talk about the various academic offerings along with representatives from different clubs and extracurricular activities. We will also have alumnae and parents who can answer questions and give their unique perspective on the benefits of being educated at Saint Mary High School. We will also be giving away ten $1,000 scholarships to incoming freshmen.

Praying with the Seniors

Today the seniors are praying for the seventh consecutive day for wisdom in making their college decisions. This is part of a nine-day novena, a popular devotion in the Catholic Church that demonstrates perseverance in prayer.

Each day in their theology class, the seniors are praying a decade of the rosary and reflecting on the possibilities of their future. It began on Monday, October 20 and will conclude on Friday, October 31.

As our seniors are confronted with the many choices that await them throughout this year, Saint Mary High School is encouraging them to ask God to help them discern the right path. As a Catholic institution, we are modeling to our students the importance and efficacy of prayer.

Fall Plays

The Drama Club will be performing two one-act comedies on November 7 and 8 at 7:00pm. These shows will involve about 50 Saint Mary's students from cast to crew. The plays are directed by Mrs. Reardon and Mr. Lepage, featuring the artistic designs of Mrs. Farley.

We're calling these evenings "Drama and Desserts" since wine and desserts will be available during intermission in order to support the work of the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC).
